Show Business Isn’t Pleasure

I can’t see past the lie
Maybe if I close my eyes
The obscurer will die
I dream of its demise

Can’t leave the past behind
I’m going out of my mind
Then into yours
A round of applause
For the one & only
If only they knew how lonely
Showbiz could be
Do you still wish to be me?

Soon I’ll be smiling
All in good timing
Lights. Camera. Action!
My only distraction
The camera will roll
And so will my self control
A showy show of my teeth
Won’t let them see my grief

But when I go home
You’d call me and I’d moan
You’ll hang up on the phone
Your voice replaced with the dial tone
It’ll dawn on me that I’m alone
